High level of cholesterol and heart-related problems has become very common today. The kind of stressful life we are living, unhealthy eating habit etc. has badly affected the level of cholesterol in our body. The main causes of high level of cholesterol are unhealthy food (junk foods, food cooked in butter and other saturated fats, soft drinks), excess intake of red meat, stress, smoking and consuming alcohol and other drugs.

LDLs or Low density lipoproteins are accountable for plaque buildup in the arteries; this blocks the flow of blood to mayor organs like the liver, the kidneys, genitals, brain and is the number one cause of heart disease.

HDLs or High density lipoproteins in the other hand are measured good because they carry un-used cholesterol back to the liver where it was shaped once there the liver brakes it down to be removed from the body. The needed cholesterol plays a significant part in the formation of sex hormones and proper nerve and brain functioning.

Though, if we do not have sufficient HDLs (High density lipoproteins) or too much cholesterol for those to pick up and transport back to the liver it will stay in our arteries jamming them.

But you are most likely asking yourself if the cholesterol is produce in the liver,  why would I have too much, it seems like the liver would control how much cholesterol is needed? That is right, the difficulty is that cholesterol is also present in our diet and regularly we eat too much saturated fats such as, coconuts, white bread, gravies, pork products, etc. all these added to the cholesterol produced by the liver could make us arrive at an unsafe cholesterol level.

Lahsun (Garlic):

Garlic too is very effective in reducing high cholesterol. Make a habit to eat every morning a single piece of garlic alone. This procedure takes time but is very effective in treating cholesterol. Add garlic to green salads, or make a paste of 2-3 garlic seeds and take with water or milk. Take a glass of milk and a piece of garlic and boil them together. Allow it to cool. Drink this for a few days to reduce the heart pains and to reduce cholesterol. This is how to lower cholesterol. Eat about seven cloves of garlic every day or take an odorless garlic capsule every day to keep LDL cholesterol low and HDL cholesterol high. Home remedy for High Cholesterol

  • Mix 10-12 tablespoons of apple juice and 5-6 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Intake this mixture once a day.
  • Consuming raw onions or onion juice is also beneficial in reducing the high cholesterol.
  • Regular exercising is very necessary to keep the cholesterol levels under control.
  • In green leafy salads, mix a small amount of olive oil. It proves beneficial lessening the high cholesterol levels as well as for the proper functioning of the heart and the body.
  • Persons suffering from high cholesterol should have foods rich in fiber such as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, broccoli, green beans, etc.
  • Consume lots of almonds and walnuts. These are helpful in reducing the cholesterol levels.
  • Chewing sweet neem is also beneficial in lowering the high cholesterol levels.
  • Having fenugreek seeds and sprouts helps to reduce the high cholesterol levels.

  • Another effective natural remedy to treat high cholesterol levels would be to have foods rich in lecithin such as egg yolk, vegetable oils, whole grain cereals, soybeans and un-pasteurized milk.
  • It is necessary to follow a proper and healthy diet to keep cholesterol level under control. Always eat a fiber rich breakfast consisting of oatmeal, whole grain porridge, and fruits. Eat legumes at meals along with vegetables and salads. Garlic is considered to lower cholesterol production in liver, so include garlic in your meals. Also add foods with high monosaturated fat content (for example, salmon oil, olive oil, almonds, walnuts, avocados) that helps improve cholesterol in your body.
  • Also, do some amount of physical exercise everyday as an active body is less likely to have a high cholesterol level. Stay away from foods with saturated fats such as whole milk, clarified butter, coconut oil, red meat, poultry skin, etc. Stick to a dominantly vegetarian diet as far as possible as almost all animal products are likely to increase cholesterol level.
